It’s funny, I guess, that I hate to wear heavy coats but love all sorts of lightweight jackets and sweaters. If I can create or repurpose with one then all the better. This is one of my favorites that I have made. It’s easy and minimalistic, but so cute.
Step 1: Find a plain sweatshirt in need of some jazzing up. 😉
Step 2: As with my t-shirt to keyhole cardigan tutorial, fold the back shoulders together and iron down the front center of the shirt so your cut will be even. ✂ Then cut straight down the front.
Step 3: Pick out your preferred color of bias trim and add this over your cut edges. I went with a neutral look for this cardi (I love color so this is unusual for me).
Step 4: Embellish!! Again, I went for a simple look & just placed some buttons symmetrically but you can jazz it up as much as you want. ENJOY & HAPPY CREATING!

What a lovely idea to make something so plain into an individual item! Those buttons really lift the garment!
Thank you so much. I appreciate the comment. I’m trying to figure out blogging right now. Lots to learn!
That’s a cool idea! I might have to try this going into winter!
Very cute!
Thank you!

Hi, I’d like instructions to make it button down. I’m using buttons from my Mom’s jacket.
Thank you
