Fear is a powerful thing. I know people that live their lives everyday being afraid of nearly everything. What’s worse is they don’t even realize it. Their lives have been such a whirlwind of anxiety that the pandemic we all find ourselves in hasn’t really affected how they think. Sure, they’re scared. But, they’re always scared. Nine times out of ten they spend their days worrying about things that will never come to pass.

I know everyone has their own way of dealing with stressful things and anxious thoughts. And my own process is different depending on the situation. But there are a few things that I try to implement when feeling overwhelmed.

First: I have Bible verses that I like to meditate on. This helps me get into the mindset that I WANT to be in. I have a list of some of my favorite verses below. (the last one has been my go-to verse since I was a teenager)

Second: if possible, I get outside. Few things make me feel better than being surrounded by nature. If I can get on the water in my kayak, all the better!

Third: I like to create. Sew, paint, paper craft, color, cook….You name it and I probably like it.

Fourth: I get zen with some yoga! Namaste.

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)
  • Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. (NKJV)
  • Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.(HCSB)
  • Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! (NKJV)

I’d love to hear what helps you destress. Drop it in the comments below.

  1. Thank you for your “good words” to soften my heavy heart. Its just what i needed to hear today! 🙂 I work in healthcare so work has been very stressful. I need to remember to put my faith in God.

  2. I love everything about this post giving tips on ways to master fear. I hadn’t though of meditating on scriptures. I already practice getting outside and creating, but have not been using yoga or meditation and think they are excellent recommendations.
