We got the pleasure of taking a quick trip to New Orleans one year ago today. My Google was kind enough to remind me of that this morning. Because I am really itching to travel and, unfortunately, that is not possible right now due to COVID-19, I decided to share my experience in ‘The Big Easy’.
Day 1: A BUSY first day in NOLA. After getting checked into our hotel around lunch time, we had snacks and hit the pavement. We got SO many steps in that day! We exited our hotel and took a left heading for the French Quarter. We walked around Jackson Square where artists were lined up displaying their work for sale. Then, OF COURSE, stopped at Cafe Du Monde and enjoyed beignets and coffee! There were so many shops and we bought a few things but mostly we just took it all in. We got so many steps in that day. That evening we had a wonderful buffet of cajun dishes at our hotel. We wrapped it up on the rooftop deck. It was nice & breezy up there and the view was incredible.
Day 2: We got to listen to a presentation from Mike Wheeler of the t.v. show Wheeler Dealer’s and had our picture made with him. After that we did more walking, had more beignets and coffee, took pictures of St. Louis Cathedral, & got wet on a cemetery tour at St. Louis Cemetery #1. We went back to the hotel and got changed. We were able to take part in a parade to Burbon Street led by a band. We ate at Cafe Remoulade and of course threw beads off their balcony. And, yes, it is possible to have a good time in New Orleans without alcohol. We did.
Day 3: We had a quick breakfast at the hotel followed by…Surprise, Surprise… more walking! I met a lovely horse who was willing to pose with me after I sweet talked her, I took pics of statues, we had EVEN MORE beignets and coffee, we shopped A LOT at The French Market, upon many recommendations we had the BIGGEST sandwich I’ve ever seen, a muffaletta at Central Grocery and Deli, we walked along the Mississippi River, and walked through Harrah’s. Then it was back to the hotel, back to NOLA airport, back to Atlanta airport, and finally back to East Tennessee!
Thanks for letting me share this. Going through the pictures and making this post helped me relive the trip and to remember some things that I had already forgotten. It was a really entertaining trip and I would go back again for sure! I added links to everything so if you are thinking of going there they might help you.
Brighter travel filled days are to come. In the meantime, stay safe. ❤
My adult kids all took a cross country trip from Florida out to the Midwest last year. It included New Orleans and they had the most awesome time. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully we’ll all be traveling again soon!!!
Oh wow, this looks like such an incredible trip. I have always wanted to visit NOLA and I’ve told my husband that a few times… as a musician myself and an instructor with our local marching band, I love the idea of embracing music in the streets!!!
You had such a fun trip! You were able to do so much!
