Couldn’t We All Listen More?

Daily writing prompt
What could you do more of?

Sometimes listening is not my best quality. As a child, I was always told that listening was an important skill to have. As I grow older I’m learning to appreciate the value of listening to the things people say, as well as the things they don’t. I learned that sometimes, people say one thing but mean another. Their words may be carefully chosen, but their body language and tone of voice can convey a whole different message. By paying attention to these subtle cues, I’m able to understand people on a deeper level.

But it isn’t just people that I’m learning to listen to. Discovering the beauty of nature and the sounds it creates is truly a blessing. The rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the rush of water all speak to me in their own unique way, reminding me to slow down and appreciate the world around me.

Lastly, I hear the ramblings of my own mind. Sometimes it is a jumbled mess of thoughts, but other times there are moments of clarity that help me to understand myself better.

In the end, I am realizing that listening is not just about hearing words. It is also about being present, paying attention, and truly understanding the world and people around me.
