Too Much Screen Time

This is something that I need help with. I am all too aware that I waste time on my cell phone and I legitimately don’t want to do that anymore, but it has become such a habit that I’m not sure exactly how to fix it. I have already gotten rid of Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and any other similar random sites. Because of keeping in touch with family and close friends, I don’t want to delete my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I have already unfriended a bunch of people that I really didn’t know. Why they were even there I have no idea. I guess back in the early days of Facebook we all just tried to see how many “friends” we could get. I’ve thought about deleting the apps so it’s not as easy to just click on them at any given moment. That way I will have to consciously type in the website. I really hate to admit it but I guess I do have some FOMO (fear of missing out) and I think it becomes addictive posting pictures of things you are doing and places you are visiting. But, in the great scheme of things, do the majority of people really care what I’m doing on a daily basis? Probably not. Should they? Nope. We all should be consciously living in the moment, just living our best lives. How can we do that with all the mindless scrolling? How many silly memes do we really need in our lives? I’m ready to be more intentional about my time.

So I’m up for suggestions. How can I break the habit? It really is pretty ridiculous that I’m even struggling with this. Anyone else feel the same??

  1. I think putting away your phone/ device is the only way to stop yourself from using it too much. Going for a walk is a good way to do it.

  2. I struggle with the same fear of missing out. I told myself I would NOT download TikTok and so far I have stayed away from it. I have enough with Instagram, I would definitely never get anything done with tiktok. I play games on my phone too and that is addictive. I think we are all in the same boat. When it comes down to it, we have to make ourselves put the phone down. Good Luck!

  3. I too love to keep up with family and friends on FB. But it’s so easy to just keep scrolling! So I limit myself to three times per week, for up to 20 min. each time. To do an even better job of reining myself in, I should set a timer! There are too many more productive ways to spend my time. P.S. Thank you for becoming a follower of my blog. I pray you find the posts meaningful whenever you’re able to visit!
