Politics Can Get Really Complicated

How have your political views changed over time?

As I have matured I’ve realized that nothing is just black & white, especially politics. I’ll resist the urge to say that all politicians are crooks because I still hold onto the hope that this is not true. I believe that the majority of them start out with a sincere desire to improve their city, county, state, or country, whatever it may be. But over time they may be corrupted by the whole “I’ll scratch your back and you scratch mine” temptation and then they get in too deep. Anyway, that’s just my thought on that.

Personally, I’m conservative, but without being extreme about it. I see good and bad on both sides so I try to keep an open mind and choose the person who most aligns with my own values. How do you feel about it?

  1. Some would say even using the “conservative” label is a pretty extreme thing to do.

I’ve known a couple of good people who became politicians. I can’t vouch for them after that…

  2. We live in an age that “civil discourse” seems a almost forgotten term. Personally as a fiscal conservative liberal I have no issues with my conservative or socialist friends, although we might disagree on some issues. But is that not what makes discussion about politics interesting, the exchange of opinions which are not necessarily our own.
