What Sacrifices Shape Our Lives?

In my own life, I have had to make difficult sacrifices, particularly in my younger years. Due to being over-protected and not wanting to rebel against my parents, I often had to forego activities or experiences that I truly desired. To this day I can’t wrap my mind around not being allowed to go to church camp! As a Christian parent shouldn’t that be where you want your children to go?? But we won’t open that bitter can of worms. And there are a lot of them. Let’s just say that my kids were encouraged to go every time camp season rolled around. I try my hardest to not project my fears on them and to encourage their growth, even when it means they will be standing on their own two feet. Isn’t what we should want for our kids? Not to hold them back just so we can keep them close. That’s just not right. Now, I’ll climb back down from my soapbox.

But as far as sacrifice that IS in my control. I am human, and a wife & mom, so I often find myself making sacrifices for one reason or another. Such sacrifices are a natural part of life, and are often seen as a hallmark of being a good person. They can also lead to personal growth, as we learn to navigate challenges and develop a greater understanding of my values and priorities. Ultimately, self-sacrifice not only contributes to the well-being of others but also enriches my own life, and can result in increased fulfillment and strength.
