The Philosophy of Melissa

If you had to sum up your life philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?

I want to live a life rooted in faith, guided by love, and grounded in peace.

I believe my life experiences, both joyful and difficult, have purpose. I want to use what I’ve learned to encourage others, offer hope, and help people feel less alone and closer to God.

I want to leave people feeling better for having crossed my path and I choose contentment over comparison, progress over perfection, and authenticity over approval.

I will no longer allow guilt, obligation, or the expectations of others to dictate how I live. I can love people without being responsible for their happiness. I can help others without losing myself. I can say no without feeling guilty.

I give myself permission to enjoy life simply because I am alive. To explore, create, travel, spend time in nature, nurture friendships, laugh, learn, and grow.

I don’t have to perform for approval. I don’t have to prove my worth. I don’t have to be perfect.

I will extend grace to myself just as I extend it to others.

I want to walk closely with God, remain open to the people and experiences He brings into my life, and make the most of the time I’ve been given.

My goal isn’t to live a perfect life. It’s to live a meaningful one.

My guiding thought
I want to leave a little more light wherever I go, without losing my own along the way.

Five principles to carry with you
1. Faith over fear. Let God guide your decisions.
2. Peace over people-pleasing. Not every invitation, expectation, or request requires your yes.
3. Grace over perfection. You are allowed to be a work in progress.
4. Purpose over performance. Your worth isn’t measured by what you accomplish or how others perceive you.
5. Joy over obligation. Do things because they bring meaning, happiness, curiosity, or fulfillment to your life.
One Bible verse I’d leave you with is Galatians 1:10 (NIV), which speaks about seeking God’s approval rather than people’s.

And one final thought:

You have spent a lot of your life learning how to be there for other people. Perhaps this next chapter can also be about learning how to be there for yourself

You deserve that, too. ❤️
