The lake was as still and shiny as glass. It was as if he could step on it and walk across. A rainbow reflected in the water from a brief shower that had just passed through. He stood on the shore, breathing deeply and imagining he was on the plane that was flying overhead. Recently he had read a book about Hawaii. Imagining now that the airplane was transporting him to that tropical paradise, he slowly smiled. He could almost smell the native flowers: Bird of Paradise, Gardenia, Hibiscus. He had studied them all. But he sighed as he glanced at the cane in his right hand. Hawaii wasn’t in the cards until he could walk without that thing. Hearing voices behind him, he turned. The morning yoga class his doctor had recommended was forming in the grass. He thought there was no better time than now to get started on that dream. Namaste.
