How far back in your family tree can you go?

This is why it’s interesting that this prompt should come up now:

• I have been working on a family tree casually on Ancestry.com for a while now.
• For my birthday this year my husband got me a DNA kit.
• My uncle (not knowing about either of the above) sent me a flash drive with extensive research that he has done on my Dad’s side of the family.

According to my research, I’ve traced my Dad’s side of the family back to Ireland in 1684. I’ve only traced my Mom’s side back to 1870 and that is still in Tennessee, so not very exciting.

My uncle, however, did find links to Lyndon B Johnson & Abraham Lincoln. He also found a Cherokee Indian chief. I haven’t had time to delve into the flash drive very much yet and that is all that I can remember from the one time that I looked. So, at least on my dad’s side, I now know I have Irish and Cherokee ancestry. Pretty cool.

I can’t wait to see other people’s #bloganuary posts on this because there is such a variety of people and ethnicities participating. It should be very interesting!
