Have you ever broken a bone?
I had a pretty good run until a few years ago. I had never broken a bone before, but one day I was walking down the stairs to our basement and my foot slipped on the carpeted step and down I went. It was only me & my son in the house at the time. He came running and helped me get up and walked me over to the couch. I knew immediately that something was wrong so I had him call my parents to come take me to urgent care. The pain was excruciating and it hurt to take a breath.
I returned home with a broken rib and some pain meds. There was nothing else that they could do. In the past they would wrap your chest to help with the pain, but apparently that makes it difficult to take a deep breath which can cause pneumonia so they don’t do that anymore. I was instructed to hold a pillow when I had to cough.
Since it hurt so bad to lay flat I slept in the basement sitting up in the corner of the couch. I would try sleeping in my bed every couple of days, but I ended up sleeping in the basement for a few weeks.
Then, in December 2021 just a few days after Christmas, I had a car wreck. The accident was my fault and just a few yards from my house. I blame it on pure exhaustion. This was when I was spending most of my time at my parents’ house because my dad was so ill with lung cancer. I was coming home after a long day to get some rest and I hit another car when turning into my neighborhood. I didn’t even see it. The car was totaled and I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. I was told that the other driver was okay, his leg just hurt a little. Later that night I returned home with another broken rib and spent the next few weeks in the basement again. Sheesh, hopefully I will stay unbroken from now on. Have you ever broken a bone? Feel free to tell me about it in the comments below .

I was going well till I was 57 years old. I got out of the car and suddenly twisted my foot and fell on the road. I had a lot of pain and swelling in my foot. On X-ray it was discovered that I had 3 fractured toes. It healed in about 6 weeks. But it was very painful
For years, my only broken bone was a toe – playing with my younger brothers when I was 12. then in my mid-40s, I fell on ice and broke my tailbone. That was painful and still bothers me from time to time.
Yep, I fell when shopping after tripping on the edge of their stupid display thing on the floor. Wound up breaking my foot. Had to sue to get them to pay and stop trying to say it was my fault.
Ouch. Broken ribs are the worst because they really can’t do much for you.
Ow, two broken ribs? That must have been awful. Statistics say that most car accidents happen within, I think, 10 miles of our house because we tend to be less alert in our own neighborhoods. Glad you’ve recovered. I’ve not broken any bones (so far, knock wood).
Thanks. I hope you never do!
Good story sometime have no coins
Yep, one time, all at once. Car accident… no seat belt. Was ejected. Had a compound fractured femur, broken knee and elbow, cracked pelvis, broken pubic, and tail bone. Also ripped my liver and spleen and had a severe concussion. Somehow, I survived and haven’t broken anything since! This was 26 years ago, around my 17th birthday.
Wow. You’ve overcome a lot. I hope you never have to deal with anything like that again!
Thank you. I’m still dealing with it every single day.
Good article, I read it well.
