Well my friend that was going to the health festival with me is still sick (ironic, I know) so I went to that Saturday morning all by myself. It was a lot smaller than I expected. The community yoga was fun and it got my muscles relaxed and warmed up. I wandered around for a few minutes, got a snack from a food truck, and was ready to move on. I opened my AllTrails app and found a local hike in Hampton.
The hike to Laurel Falls crosses over a small part of the Appalachian Trail. It is on the Doe River. The trail was in good shape but, as usual, there were a lot of rocks and tree roots to be aware of. There was also a section where I had to climb over rocks along the side of the river, but it wasn’t very long or difficult. As you can see by the pictures it was all well worth the effort.

Hubby says I go too fast when we are hiking. To him if you’re not making slow & steady progress you’re not enjoying nature. I don’t intentionally go fast when I’m out, and honestly every hike is different, moods are different, etc., but usually I do move at a steady pace. It’s as if I’m being propelled along by nature and I’m just along for the ride. I really enjoy it and for the most part it feels effortless. This makes solo hiking so appealing to me. No worries about keeping up or being kept up with.
The day was lovely as you can see from the pictures. And the time alone outside served to clear my mind. By the time I got back to my car I was just over 14,000 steps. We had to go to Home Depot after that to get wood for the deck that our patio room is going to be mounted on (almost finished with the home remodel). I finished the day with just over 19,000 steps! I slept well that night!
I hope you had a great weekend. š
