Forget name brands. Handmade items, whether created by myself or by others, are usually better quality than mass-produced goods. The personal touch in each piece shows both creativity and individuality. When I am sewing I tend to remember what was going on around me at the time. Handmade creations often include  stories, experiences, and intentions from the person designing them, making them irreplaceable treasures. I know from personal experience that when I am sewing I put care into the item so that others can tell it was made well. We creators take pride in that. Because of this, I feel that the meticulous attention to detail found in artisanal work not only showcases skill but also a commitment to quality.

Of course, as an added bonus, supporting handmade products promotes sustainable practices and nurtures local economies. I haven’t been able to muster up the same level of appreciation for craftsmanship and authenticity with the mainstream items I purchase online that anyone else could have. I prefer the personal touch of items created by hand.

With being so busy with our home renovation project over the past couple of years I haven’t been able to sew or craft at all really. I miss it and soon will organize my craft area and get my sewing machines out of storage. I can’t wait!
