1. Take time to rest
Getting enough sleep is essential for helping a person maintain optimal health and well-being. When it comes to your health, sleep is as vital as regular exercise and eating a balanced diet.
According to WebMD there are 7 surprising health benefits of getting enough rest:
- Sharper brain
- Mood boost
- Healthier heart
- Athletic achievement
- Steadier blood sugar
- Germ fighting
- Weight control
Tip: Treat yourself to some sleep masks and lavender essential oil to help induce relaxation.
2. Meditate
Meditation done right can make us more aware of ourselves and our environment. It’s an excellent way to reduce stress by triggering our brain’s relaxation response. We become more aware of our own emotions. This can help us realize the root of our anxieties and work through them. I like to meditate on Bible verses such as John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (NIV). Or Psalm 27:14: Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord (NKJV)
3. Yoga & stretching
Yoga goes hand-in-hand with meditation. Where do I even start with the benefits? According to the American Osteopathic Association some benefits of yoga include:
- increased flexibility.
- increased muscle strength and tone.
- improved respiration, energy and vitality.
- maintaining a balanced metabolism.
- weight reduction.
- cardio and circulatory health.
- improved athletic performance.
