Transforming My Mornings

I read a book called The 5 A.M. Club. It has motivated me to get up and get started being more intentional and productive earlier in the day. Will it last? Who knows? But I’m willing to give it a try!

But this is what my mornings are currently like: Monday through Friday my alarm goes off at 7:00 a.m. I usually argue with myself about hitting the snooze, then I hit it anyway….a few times. Thankfully, I’m working from home right now so I just have to shower and go to my office. Usually, I make a green smoothie, but sometimes I’ll fix eggs or oatmeal. If it’s pretty I may slip out onto the deck for a few minutes or I might work on a blog post. I like to slip some meditation in, but I really want to get a regular routine started. I do yoga EVERY morning. Then it’s time to go to my office and log in for the day. Those medical charts aren’t going to review themselves! I’m really wanting to make more time for hiking and concentrating on creating better blog posts. 😁

  1. My mornings have a huge impact on my day, especially with creative work. I discovered a while ago that if I picked up my phone first thing in the morning, it was MUCH harder to sit down and write when I got up. I can’t have other people’s words and voices and worries and anger in my head when I need to get my own words on the page.
But I’m generally a morning person, so I have it easier than folks who are more productive later in the day. Of course, I’m bleary-eyed by 9pm where some of my friends are just revving up! I think the best thing is to figure out when you’re most creative and productive and work with your strengths, rather than trying to force yourself into someone else’s mold.

  2. I’m trying to keep my mornings simple. I wake up around 6 a.m., and after brushing my teeth, etc., I grab a cup of coffee and a small breakfast while reading the newspaper. After that, I do my devotional and start my daily blogging. I don’t blog all day—I usually stop to do some reading and whatever else is on my to-do list. I have a home gym, so I work out a few times during the week. I don’t blog on weekends; those are reserved for family time.

  3. I go through phases of getting up early and being intentional and productive. I find rising early MUCH easier in spring than in winter, so one of my goals for April is to get out of bed at 6am – no more snoozing for me. The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod helped me a lot. I’m excited to check out this book as well. Good luck!
