31 Days of Yoga – Warrior 2 (Virabhadrasana II)

Welcome to Day 6. (January 6th is also Three Kings Day. Time to take your Christmas Tree down!) Today’s is the second version of the warrior pose, Warrior 2. This pose is designed to help improve stamina while stretching and strengthening the legs.

For this pose you will again face forward. One foot should be placed in front of the other with that forward leg bent. Try to keep your head and hips aligned. Extend one arm straight ahead while focusing your gaze forward and the other arm behind. (If your left leg is extended forward then your left arm should also be forward). Breathe slowly and deeply for up to 10 breaths. If you hold this position long enough you will start to feel shaky. When you’ve had enough, take a break to relax your arms and legs before advancing to another pose.
